Comfy GlasgowAn expression of thanks
|
If you sliced Goerge Mitchell, he'd be Glasgow all through. Writing out of forty-five years, spent in the north of the city he loves, George shares the struggles of his poverty-stricken childhood, and his varied working life s a steel worker, teacher, pastor and street sweeper.
'Having personally 'comfae' Glasgow and started in the Rottenrow where George Mitchell started, I found the book historically, culturally and socially excellent, doing justice to the great City of Glasgow. The book captivates the heart, demanding to be read, cover to cover. It is a book that will be appreciated by all, not only Glaswegians.'
'Easy and compulsive reading, George Mitchell's autobiography provides a fascinating slice of social history, whether of education in Glasgow, life as a metallurgist apprentice, Bible College lecturer, Religious Education schoolteacher or Baptist Minister.'
Derek Prime ~ Author and former pastor of Charlotte Chapel, Edinburgh
'I am so glad George Mitchell has put the story of his varied life into print. It is a rattling good read which has many lessons to teach whilst providing us all with a great testimony to God's power and grace.'
Derek Tidball ~ Formerly Principal of London School of Theology
'George Mitchell tells the story of God's dealings with him most attractively and with many a humorous touch.'
Geoffrey Grogan (1925-2011) ~ Late Principal Emeritus of Glasgow Bible College and well respected author
'This is a very interesting book. It deals with people, places and social conditions in Glasgow that I remember well from my youth. But it is not just about social history. It tells of a boy who was touched and changed by God and who through his youth into manhood succeeded against all the odds. A fascinating story and well worth reading. I commend it to you.'
Sir David McNee, K.StJ., QPM
George Mitchell gives us a short account of his life. He takes us from his upbringing in Glasgow, through to his ministry in Baptist churches in Scotland, as well as his time teaching in a school and in the Glasgow Bible Training Institute. A nice read with some lovely touches of humour along the way.
