Margaret Wilson:Danger on the Hill
|
"Run, run for your lives," a young boy screamed. The enemy was moments away but nobody took any notice. Again the young boy screamed as he flung himself into the stream and tried to pull himself out the other side, "Run, everybody, run. The soldiers are here."
That day on the hill is the beginning of a new and terrifying life for the three Wilson children. Margaret, Agnes and Thomas are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in but it means that they are forced to leave their home and their parents for a life of hiding on the hills.
If you were a covenanter in the 1600's you were the enemy of the King and the authorities. But all you really wanted to do was worship God in the way he told you to in the Bible. Margaret wants to give Jesus Christ the most important place in her life, and this conviction might cost her life. THERE IS DANGER ON THE HILL FOR MARGARET. THERE IS DANGER EVERYWHERE IF YOU ARE A COVENANTER.
Catherine Mackenzie enjoys explaining the gospel to a child and sees it as a challenge and a joy - something to treasure and to look forward to. Catherine's favourite activity is making flapjacks with her nephews & nieces. She loves to collect books & real life heroes and some of these can be seen in her Little Light's series. Watch out for two additions to this series in September 2008. She has written several trailblazer biographies (including Billy Graham) for young people, the ‘Stories from Canterbury Place’ series dealing with difficult issues those children may have to face. Her Recent Board Series 'Sent to Save'(January 2008) follows on from ‘Born to be King’ which was released in July 2006.

I think I can honestly say that I wrote Danger on the Hill in the space of about ten or twelve days in total. I spent a day at the National Library in Edinburgh and then it just happened. Not much is known about the Wilson children and after Margaret's death the other two just disappear off the pages of history - but this story needed to be told. And those facts that we do know can't fail to touch our hearts. I found my own background of Psalm singing essential to understanding this young girl and her history. I've used that extensively throughout the book to give that necessary authenticity to the struggle of the Covenanter church of the 1600's.
