Professor Mackay, an Old Testament and Hebrew specialist, has provided us with a readable but rich, competent commentary on the biblical text. His extended introduction is also valuable and a necessary read for grappling with the text of Ezekiel.

The commentary is marked by considerable scholarship with judicious comment on the relevant literature. It is also very readable. Pastoral and practical concerns are handled sensitively. Don’t be tempted to ignore the introductory material which is as lucid an account as I have read of Ezekiel’s life and times and a fascinating discussion of the relationship of the Spirit of God and the human personality.
