Perseverance– ‘William Carey’ TrailBlazer

Linda Finlayson

Have you been following the space exploration that NASA and other groups are doing? I like to check in on the Mars mission that began in 2020 with the launch of the rover that the scientists have named Perseverance. Perseverance was launched in July 2020 and landed on the planet Mars on February 18, 2021. That was a long trip, and all would have been wasted if the rover had not landed safely.

When I was in elementary school, our physical education classes took one day (I think it was every April) for students in each grade to run a timed distance race. By the time I was eleven years old, the distance for my grade was a mile. I remember we would be on the car park near our school, and the idea was to run down to an orange cone, back to the starting line, back to the cone, back to the line…until we had covered the mile distance.

Our family felt both excitement and anxiety. In June 2008, we were flying halfway around the world for our son’s Make–A–Wish trip to Germany. We were overjoyed to be going to a place we’d never been. And yet, the fact we’d never been to Germany caused our nerves to erupt. How would we get our train tickets to go on our various outings? Why It Has Taken Us 18 Years to Publish This Book

I had been with Christian Focus Publications for a year or two when I pulled into the leafy campus of Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts in late Autumn 2002. Coming from the Highlands of Scotland I was something of an innocent when it came to understanding the intricacies of the different tribes of US Evangelicalism. I knew what CFP stood for but was in the process of discovering where we fitted.

Better Than We Dreamed

Better Than We Dreamed

As I climbed into the astonishing life of Elaine Townsend, I found myself captivated by the picture of a woman whose insatiable craving for God, delight in people, and vivacity of life challenged all modern notions of stodgy missionary women. Elaine herself would have been glad of this.

Phil Johnson on ‘Five Half–Truths’

John MacArthur once said, “Half–truth? That’s a lie. I’d rather they call it a half–lie. It’s a lie intended to cover up or mislead.” Spurgeon would have agreed. He wrote, “The whole truth is wholesome. But a part of the truth may mislead, and cause us to make as great errors as if we had believed a falsehood. Half the truth is a lie.”
