Description

Finding Refuge in God's Sovereign Grace

The message of Zephaniah is often overlooked, but its relevance has never faded. In A Shelter in a Time of Storm, beloved Bible teacher Dale Ralph Davis guides readers through this neglected Old Testament prophet, revealing a God who is both righteous in judgment and steadfast in mercy.

With his trademark blend of biblical insight, clear exposition, vivid illustrations, and pastoral warmth, Davis helps readers grasp Zephaniah’s central message: the Day of the Lord is both a warning and a promise. While God's judgment against sin is certain, so too is his commitment to save and preserve his people.

This accessible commentary will help you:

• Understand the structure, message, and significance of Zephaniah
 • See how God's judgment and grace work together throughout Scripture
 • Discover the comfort of God's faithfulness in troubled times
 • Apply the prophet's message to today's world and the Christian life
 • Find hope in Christ, the ultimate shelter from God's wrath

Whether you are studying Zephaniah for the first time or seeking a deeper understanding of this powerful prophetic book, A Shelter in a Time of Storm offers rich biblical teaching and lasting encouragement. In a world filled with uncertainty, it points readers to the God whose justice is perfect, whose mercy is sure, and whose people can always find refuge in him.

Endorsements

Zephaniah is perhaps one of the most neglected books in the Old Testament. It is brief, sometimes harsh, and rarely preached, yet it carries an urgent word for a church too comfortable with its own condition. In this exposition, Dale Ralph Davis serves as an exegetically rigorous and pastorally attentive guide, tracing the book's stark movement from the terror of the Day of Yahweh against a faithless Judah to the promise of a purified and gathered people drawn from every nation. The true significance of Davis's work, therefore, is to remind Christ's church that God's covenant faithfulness never fails, even when, or especially when, his own people do. Judgment is not Zephaniah's last word; shelter is.

Who is the best expositional Old Testament commentator, and why is it Dale Ralph Davis? In all seriousness, if Davis writes it, I consult it as a pastor. This volume on one of the Bible’s most neglected—and, yes, strangest—books will be a magnificent resource for those entrusted to proclaim God’s Word.
