This is a series of eight sermons, expounding Palm 107. Although preached back in 1955, as you read through, you can see that the message of these sermons is still as relevant for today. From the beginning, as Lloyd-Jones takes us through the opening verses, he shows the need to be in a relationship with the living God, and what that relationship will lead to - praise and thanksgiving. The author uses the psalmist's word-pictures to describe the amazing grace of God in rescuing sinners from the wilderness, setting them free from prison, healing them from a dreadful disease and saving them from a terrible storm. Lloyd-Jones then concludes with three sermons from the closing verses of the psalm, which speak of the Lord turning 'the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.' He uses these verses to describe the salvation of God and to explain the change that God makes to a person's life when they experience His salvation. As indicated, these are messages which are still relevant for young and old today, and simple to follow and understand. I highly recommend this, along with Lloyd-Jones' other expositions on the Psalms.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) was born in Wales. He was a dairyman's assistant, a political enthusiast, debater, and chief clinical assistant to Sir Thomas Harder, the King's Physician. But at the age of 27 he gave up a most promising medical career to become a preacher. He had a far-reaching influence through his ministry at Westminster Chapel in London, England from 1938-68. His published works have had an unprecedented circulation, selling in millions of copies.
